Microsoft has dedicated Office and emoji keys on its new keyboardTempo: Nov. 4, 2019
The latest Microsoft keyboards now include dedicated Office and Emoji keys. The software giant experimented earlier this year with a desktop key on the keyboards. The company is now launching a new ergonomic and slim Bluetooth keyboard with a dedicated button.
The Office key replaces the appropriate Windows key and starts the Office application for Windows 10, which acts as a hub for Microsoft Productivity Suite. You can also use the Office key as a shortcut to start Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. For example, the Office + W key opens Word and the Office + X key opens Excel.
In addition to the Office key, there is also a new Emoji key on these new keyboards. The emoji selector starts in Windows 10, but unfortunately you cannot assign it to a specific emoji or create shortcuts. A touch of emoji on a new Microsoft keyboard certainly seems unusual, but the company is really interested in this new material in companies where Office is widely used and where the use of emoji increases.
While Microsoft is pressing these new Office and Emoji keys, it is unclear whether other third-party keyboards will support them. Most keyboards come with the dedicated Windows key and Microsoft has signed a license agreement to use the Windows key to ensure that the appearance is the same everywhere.
The ergonomic Microsoft keyboard costs $59.99. It contains a cloth wrist rest and is connected to a PC through a USB port. Microsoft's smallest Bluetooth keyboard costs $49.99 and offers support for Bluetooth 5.0 with a battery life of up to 3 years.
